Confronting White Supremacy: A Program for White Folks”

A 10-week racial justice and political education program developed by Celestial Alegría’s Celesté Martinez and consultant, Bianca Mikahn, and facilitated by Denver SURJ’s Education Team. This will be a virtual program.

During the program, participants will dive deep into power, oppression, white supremacy, and anti-Blackness, and how these show up in our lives and in our society. This course will allow participants to confront their own internalized white supremacy and have access to skills in building relationships of solidarity and accountability with BIPOC people. There will be a lot of questions, conversation, reflection, and meaningful work done towards reparations while we go through the 10-week program together. We hope to build intentional and trusted relationships across race and ethnic identities as we fight for Black, Indigenous, and people of color liberation by dismantling white supremacy.

The program begins September 12 from 11:00 am to 1:oo pm each Monday. Our last session will be November 14. We will meet virtually on a weekly basis for about 2 hours (there will also be learning and reflection work each week that will require up to 2 more hours on your own time). It is important that you are able to attend all sessions. If something comes up that prevents you from attending a session, we ask that you coordinate with the facilitators and other cohort members to catch up on that week’s materials. We look forward to spending time with you in learning and conversation.
